I have been seeing pictures on Pinterest lately for different cakes with hearts baked in the middle.  I was curious so decided to give it a try.

I was surprised at how easy this cake was to make.  I first mixed up a strawberry cake and baked it in a loaf pan.  After the cake was baked and cooled I cut the cake in slices and cut heart shapes out with a small cookie cutter.  To assemble the cake I mixed up a french vanilla cake.  I poured part of the batter into the bottom of my bundt pan, then laid the heart cake pieces into the cake pan top side down.  Finish by pouring the remaining batter into the pan.  That was it.

Not every piece looked this good.  I am guessing as the cake baked each heart settled a little differently because as I sliced up some other pieces the heart had fallen clear to the bottom of the slice.

Heart Bundt Cake

Hearts:
Strawberry cake mix
1 cup water
1/3 cup oil
3 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix all ingredients together and pour into a greased and floured loaf pan.  Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until cake test done.

After taking cake out of oven remove cake from pan and cool on a cooling rack.
When cool, cut the loaf in slices as thick as your cookie cutter.  Take each slice and cut out 2 heart shapes.  Continue until you use up all the cake.  I had 24 hearts.

Bundt Cake:
French Vanilla cake mix
1 small box french vanilla instant pudding
1 cup water
1/2 cup oil
3 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix all ingredients together and pour some of the batter into the bottom of a greased and floured bundt pan.  Place the heart slices top side up down into the batter.  Continue to place them all around forming a ring.  Pour the remaining batter over the heart slices and very carefully smooth batter over the slices.  Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake test done.

After cake is done baking remove cake from pan and place on serving plate to cool.

Chocolate Icing:
1/3 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup whipping cream
1/2 tablespoon white sugar
1 tablespoon corn syrup
2 tablespoons powdered sugar

In a sauce pan place the chocolate chips, whipping cream, white sugar, and corn syrup.  Heat until the chocolate is melted and everything is well mixed.  Cool slightly then add the powdered sugar and beat with a mixer.  If the icing seems too thin add more powdered sugar a tablespoon at a time.

Spoon the icing over the top of the cake letting it drizzle down the sides.  If desired you may add sprinkle to the top of the icing...enjoy!
